If Not Now, When?
If Not Now, When?
I admit it – I can procrastinate. I put off things I don’t want to do such as cleaning the oven or filing my tax return, but I also delay things I DO want to do – such as starting my new coaching and healing venture and launching my website.
Like many of us I can dwell on the past and then project worry into the future. My soul has inspiring, creative ideas but I’ve made my fair share of mistakes and my critical mind likes to remind me of these. Result? I don’t take action and stay where I am. This may be safe and comfortable but sometimes it’s not exciting, it doesn’t make my heart sing and I’m left with the regrets and ‘what ifs’.
I'm convinced, though, that when I put fear aside and go for what I really want, the universe does make things happen in extraordinary ways. Last year I signed up for an intensive Soul Healing training simply because I really wanted to do it. Though I have past experience as a coach and healer I've spent the last 10 years working in food and drink so it made no logical career sense to do this course.
Then I had an 'aha' moment whilst browsing in a stationery store.
Amongst the many postcards with empowering messages one jumped out at me; in bold font it read If Not Now, When?
Something about the question inspired me. It seemed to bypass my critical overthinking mind and speak to my soul – the part of me that is not sceptical and doubtful but is passionate, positive and proactive. I knew it was the universe telling me to just do it! I bought it and pinned it on my 2018 vision board.
I realised I had simply run out of excuses not to do what I really wanted. And because I had thought about things for so long, I knew what actions I needed to take. I just had to start. Things quickly fell in to place. I found a great insurance deal. A practice room suddenly came up at my local complementary health centre. I found the amazing Lidia and her team at Visuable, who helped me create my brand. A few months later and here I am - with a new business and a sparkly new website.
In the end it wasn’t hard to achieve. The hardest part was taking the first step.
So if you’re reading this and it strikes a chord try asking yourself - what do you really want to do in your life that you haven’t yet tried? What does your heart really want even if it makes no sense? And when will you do it? Because if not now, when?
Or as Goethe famously put it. ‘Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.’
